Kinder-5th Grade Attendance Policy
Caregiver Responsibility:
- Students learn best when they are in their classrooms for the entire day – from 9:00am until 3:15pm.
- Unless you have a family emergency, please make sure your child attends the full school day.
- Students who arrive to class after 9:00 am will be marked as tardy.
- Please report absences and late arrivals to the DDOA office using this online form or (503) 389-0288 (call or text)
Staff Responsibility:
*Daily notification of absences via Autocaller
Steps to follow for students with chronic attendance (less than 90%):
Step 1: Teacher outreach to caregiver via email
Step 2: Teacher outreach to caregiver via phone call
Step 3: Teacher to refer to Counselor for support if needed or follow up phone call/home visit. If SPED, the teacher will contact the case manager as well.
Step 4: When a student reaches 7 consecutive absences, the Principal will meet with family and discuss needed support to be successful and if placement needs to be adjusted.
Step 5: When a student reaches 10 days absent, the student is withdrawn from DDOA. Withdrawal letter will be mailed home.
Middle School / High School Attendance Policy
Student Responsibility:
*Daily Attendance
You will receive an email each day from Kim Anderson with a Google Form that you must complete each day. If you do not complete this form you will be marked absent from school the next school day.
*Engagement
You work independently on your courses. The expectation is that you will work at least 1 to 1 ½ hours in each class each day (or 4-6 hours total each day).
Caregiver Responsibility:
Please report absences and late arrivals to the DDOA office using this online form or (503) 389-0288 (call or text)
DDOA allows flexibile timing for students to work in their classes. Because of this, we report attendance based on the attendance form responses from the previous school day. When you receive an absence notification, it is informing you that your student failed to check in on the previous school day.
Students work independently and the expectation is that they will work 4-6 hours in APEX each day. Please give your student whatever support they need to be successful.
Staff Responsibility:
*Attendance
*Daily notification of absences via Autocaller
5+ Consecutive Days Absent: Counselor emails both student and family.
8+ Consecutive Days Absent – Principal will contact family and discuss what additional support is needed to be successful in this program and if placement needs to be adjusted.
10 Consecutive Days Absence – Student is withdrawn from DDOA. Withdrawal letter will be mailed home.
*Engagement
Steps to follow for students with low engagement in classes:
Step 1: Teacher outreach to the student via email.
Step 2: Teacher outreach to caregiver via email (include case manager if SPED)
Step 3: Teacher outreach to caregiver via phone call
Step 4: Teacher refers student to Counselor for outreach
Step 5: Principal calls or does a home visit to discuss with family what supports they need to be successful in this program and if placement needs to be adjusted.
Students who are not engaged in their APEX for 10 days or more or have completed less than 5 hours of classwork within the Quarter may be withdrawn from DDOA. Withdrawal letter will be mailed home.
